Campus should enforce smoking policy

What good is a rule if there are no mechanisms in place to enforce it? I’m talking about UF’s no-smoking policy. I see people every day, all day, smoking on campus, and they’re not even having to hide because they know there’s nothing anybody can do to them. I think on-campus smokers should be ticketed for the offense. If you were to add $5 to that $4 pack of cigarettes, I bet people would think twice about lighting up on campus.

University police preserve secure campus environment

On behalf of the UF Police Department, I would like to welcome all of our new students, as well as returning students, back to campus. I also want to take this opportunity to discuss our department, convey the mission our staff strives to achieve daily and introduce each of you to the programming and coordination our department provides that may help you safely enjoy your stay while living, studying and working within the UF and Gainesville communities.
