Q&A: Sitting down with Jason Small of Former Planets

Former Planets, a Gainesville-based rock band made up of Jason Small (lead vocals), Evan Johnson (guitar and vocals), Korkut Genc (bass) and Brook Stermer (drums), have been making music around town for the last two years. I sat down with Small before the band’s Friday night show at the Hardback Cafe, located at 211 W. University Ave.

UF libraries start program with publisher Elsevier

UF and Elsevier, a journal publishing company, are collaborating to allow more direct access to UF researchers’ final publications. The dean of university libraries, Judy Russell, conversed with different groups on campus about getting more content into UF’s institutional repository, or IR@UF, where researchers submit their articles.


Dr. Joe Cicero, a UF research scientist, hands a tarantula to attendee Mark Xby in the booth for the UF Entomology and Nematology Outreach Program during the Endangered Species Awareness Day at the Lubee Bat Conservancy on Saturday. It was the first time Xby had held a tarantula.

More than 300 guests attended the endangered species awareness day

Even without echolocation, hundreds found their way to the Lubee Bat Conservancy for an opportunity to learn about endangered species. The conservancy’s second annual Endangered Species Awareness Day took place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and attracted more than 300 guests. The event was held to raise awareness of threatened and endangered animals.
