Column: Has the awkward phase gone extinct?

I’ve chosen to live my life by many overarching rules. These include, but are not limited to: Don’t drink caffeine after 8 p.m., avoid tanning at all costs and don’t believe anyone who doesn’t make eye contact. These guidelines, while seemingly disjointed, have all arisen from some specific experience that impacted (or scarred) me enough to turn whatever lesson I learned into a cardinal rule. Yet the most important rule by far is this: “Never trust anyone who was cool in middle school.”

PC police are running rampant

Without the men and women who serve in the U.S. armed forces, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy the freedoms many of us take for granted on a daily basis. A typical reaction from an American when they see someone in uniform is to thank them for their service and sacrifice. But recently, one school had a very different reaction.

Title IX is more than just rights for women athletes

Believe it or not, Title IX is about much more than protecting women athletes. A new student-run grassroots organization, “Know Your IX,” seeks to educate students about their rights under the law and their school’s responsibilities to comply with Title IX’s stipulations.

Loyalty, honesty don’t always go together

The kid who would always tell the teacher if he or she caught you chewing gum or not sharing the Slinky even if you’d been waiting for, like, 20 minutes for your turn knew the rules and wanted to make sure everybody followed them, a believer in a school-sanctioned system of justice.

‘What Not to Wear:’ Freshman edition

Please don’t be shocked by this, it really was not as terrible as many might think. Anyone else who has started their mornings by donning a plaid skirt or oxford blouse may not be completely in agreement, but overall uniforms have been a great part of my childhood.
