Pride: The Real Problem With the World

I’m not what many people would consider an avid TV-watcher. For reasons I don’t know, I completely lost interest in TV upon entering college. After all, one can only watch the Disney Channel for so long.


A billboard near the intersection of Northwest 13th Street and Northwest 53rd Avenue promoting Texas A&M University caught the attention of media outlets nationwide. A Texas A&M spokesman said the university isn’t responsible for the billboard.

Mystery billboard precedes first Gators-Aggies game

The advertisement, north of the intersection at Northwest 13th Street and Northwest 53rd Avenue, read, “Howdy Gainesville: You’ve been annexed by Aggie Nation. The Best Academics & Cleanest Program in the SEC. WHOOP! Real Football. Real Tradition.” It caught the attention of several national media outlets, including USA Today, ESPN and Yahoo! Sports.

UF’s honors program changes requirements for completion

In the past, honors students were required to take four honors courses and participate in an internship, research, community service or study abroad. Students entering the honors college after Summer B 2012 will be required to graduate with honors from their college and earn at least 14 points for participating in both academic and enrichment activities.


Veritaserum is the truth serum featured in the Harry Potter series. Students at UF can explore the magic of science and medicine at the Harry Potter’s World exhibit in the Health Science Center Library beginning Thursday.

Harry Potter-themed exhibit opens Thursday

UF’s main Health Science Center Library will host the grand opening of “Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, Magic, and Medicine” on Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on its first floor. The event is free and open to the public.

Belly dancing classes return

RecSports first offered belly dancing during the 2010-2011 academic year, but the class wasn’t renewed last year due to a scheduling conflict with instructor Paige Rechtman, a 27-year-old mental health counseling graduate student.
