A UF business professor was chosen last week to join one of Donald Trump’s transition teams.

Mark Jamison, the director of UF’s Public Utility Research Center, was named Nov. 21 as one of the two members for the president-elect’s tech-policy transition team, according to The Washington Post. In an email, Jamison declined to comment on his role, citing it as confidential.

As a member of the team, Jamison will focus on the Federal Communications Commission, an independent government agency that regulates radio, television, wire, satellite and cable communications across the U.S. and internationally.

In the past, however, Jamison has questioned the existence of the FCC. On Oct. 21, in a published blog post, he criticized the FCC’s current state of operation and its implementation of net neutrality.

He tweeted out a link to his post, along with a question.

“If we cannot improve FCC governance, are we better off without the FCC?” he wrote.

Jamison has argued against the FCC establishing net neutrality, which since last year has worked to “establish a legal standard for other broadband provider practices to ensure that they do and do not unreasonably interfere with or disadvantage consumers’ access to the Internet,” according to the FCC’s website.

According to his biography, Jamison has also served as the special academic adviser to the chair of the Florida Governor’s Internet Task Force and the manager of regulatory policy at Sprint.
