Prior to Tuesday’s Student Senate meeting, five Impact Party senators applied unopposed for five committee chair positions.

Senators elected new students as chairpersons for the allocations committee, the judiciary committee and the rules and ethics committee. Charlie Brown Jr. (Impact, Agriculture) and Jackie Phillips (Impact, Broward) remained chairs of the budget and appropriations committee and the information and communications committee, respectively.

They also elected Impact President Janae Moodie (Impact, Liberal Arts) as the allocations committee chairwoman, Trevor Scheattle (Impact, District A) as the judiciary committee chairman and Isabella Muncan (Impact, Liberal Arts) as the rules and ethics committee chairwoman.

All five senators applied for the positions without opposition, said Senate President Pro Tempore Austin Champoux. They were elected unanimously.

Scheattle said as judiciary chairman, he wants to meet with large Student-Government-funded organizations to help them understand the legislation that allocates funding to them.

“I would really prefer a lot of legislation to go through,” said Scheattle, who has served on the committee since March.

Champoux, who became the chair of the replacement and agenda committee upon approval as Senate president pro tempore, said he would like to increase outreach for replacement senator seats. The committee consists of Champoux, two members at large, the minority and majority Senate leaders and the Senate president, all of whom are members because of their positions.

Champoux said he would like to create videos outlining Senate meetings and help students get involved with SG.

“My main goal is focusing on the outreach for Senate seats,” he said.
