The bottom line is this: Science rarely has to be rocket science, and I'm here to prove it.
I'm Steven Weiner, the research reporter, and my goal is to bring UF's science news to you in a way you can easily understand it. And if you haven't looked around campus lately (like in the last 100 years), science is everywhere. From the historical chemistry buildings on the Plaza of the Americas to the new state-of-the-art Cancer Genetics Research Lab, science goes with UF like orange goes with blue.
Every day UF scientists peer into the microscopic world of bacteria, program computerized robots, discover new animal species, investigate distant stretches of outer space, and much more. Scientists are so hard at work, in fact, that it takes an aspiring science journalist to give them a nudge and reveal the secrets of their work.
I want to show you that science is not just equations and numbers, but people, ideas, emotions, and adventures. And hopefully you'll come along for the ride.
