It appears that being president of Student Senate wasn't enough for him. Now that Robert Agrusa has ended his term for Student Government, he's moving into real-world government. Or at least the Gainesville City Commission.

Agrusa will run for the At-Large seat in the 2008 election, which will be in January. He already has an opponent: Thomas Hawkins Jr., a born-and-bred Gainesvillian.

Most outgoing SG politicos either go to law school or Florida Blue Key, so having one of our own take his experience and apply it is different. He wants to keep his knowledge in Gainesville instead of just adding a line to his résumé and going on his way.

It would be nice to see Agrusa stay in our fair city to try to improve it, focusing on the ideas of redevelopment and sustainability in the community.

Of course, we can't help but point out Agrusa didn't do much during his term as Senate president, so if he were elected, we hope that would change. But hey, at least he didn't resign or get expelled, like some recent former Senate presidents.

Best of luck to Agrusa as he kicks off his campaign.
