During his report to UF's Board of Trustees on Friday morning, UF President Bernie Machen shared his memories of Dr. Robert Cade, one of the inventors of Gatorade who died Tuesday morning.
"Dr. Cade was quite a character," Machen said. "He was a fascinating guy, down to earth and unassuming."
Cade had a "fixation" with Studebaker cars, Machen said.
The kidney doctor had a collection of nearly 75 of the historical vehicles, and he knew every detail about each one, he said.
"Why anyone would want any Studebakers is an open question that Dr. Cade took to his grave," Machen said. "He's certainly going to be missed."
