It was hard trying to be a rock star while tethered four feet from the TV and Playstation 2.

Luckily, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock allows you to jam out while jumping off the couches in your living room with the new shiny, white, wireless Gibson Les Paul controller.

As a big fan of the Guitar Hero series and a proud Nintendo Wii owner, I took the plunge in buying the new game and guitar for Wii (Guitar Hero III is also available for Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStations 2 and 3), despite already owning previous iterations of the game for Playstation 2. The new game keeps the feel and design of the series while introducing many new features.

The biggest letdown for the Wii version is the graphics. The Wii is no PS3, but the visuals should look better than the PS2. They don't.

Otherwise, the game rocks. The new guitar is the best yet, featuring a strum bar and fret buttons that are slick and responsive. The new battle mode, which allows two players to duke it out while throwing various obstacles in each other's way, is fun and engaging. The new online play is seamless, offering no lag, which is critical for a game so reliant on audio/visual cohesion.

But a rhythm game is only as fun as its soundtrack. Luckily, Guitar Hero III boasts the best soundtrack yet, with the majority of the set list represented by original versions of songs (as opposed to covers) and a wide spectrum of artists, including Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Rage Against The Machine, Smashing Pumpkins and AFI.

And with Guitar Hero finally available on every relevant console, there are no longer any excuses not to play.
