Wait until Southeastern Conference season.

That has been the motto of UF throughout the torrid run of their non-conference schedule.

After the thrilling come from behind win against now-No. 7 Stanford, Coach Tim Walton and his players were quick to point out that everything accomplished in their 24-1 start was in preparation for SEC play.

With eight games coming against three different conference opponents under their belt, the results have been equally impressive for the No. 4 Gators (31-2, 7-1 SEC).

UF completed a sweep of Arkansas on Saturday behind a strong combined-pitching performance from Stacy Nelson (19-2) and Stephanie Brombacher (11-0).

The hurlers combined to allow one earned run on five hits in the Gators 7-2 victory.

Junior Ali Gardiner went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double in the most lopsided conference decision thus far.

The three-game sweep of the Razorbacks is the second of the short SEC season for UF, who also swept Ole Miss the weekend before.

While Arkansas and Ole Miss are better opponents than many of the teams the Gators dominated early on, the most encouraging games played over spring break unquestionably came against No. 2 Alabama.

Although UF suffered its second loss of the season in a Wednesday doubleheader against the Crimson Tide, it was the one victory against Alabama that proved the Gators deserved their early-season praise.

Bouncing back from a 1-0 loss in the first game - a pitchers duel between Nelson and Tide ace Kelsi Dunne - UF again needed late-game heroics from its senior leader in an 8-4 win against the former No. 1 team in the nation.

With the game tied 4-4 in the seventh inning, senior Mary Ratliff took Dunne - who came on in relief - deep for a grand slam, breaking open the game and ensuring a victory.

That win against Alabama is exactly the kind of success Walton has been preparing his team for all season.

And while the season is still young and many tough challenges still await the Gators, it is becoming clear that SEC success is an obtainable goal for the best team in school history.
