California running back James Montgomery is staying in the Pac-10.

Montgomery will transfer to Washington State, his mother, Cynthia Cooper, confirmed over the phone Tuesday morning.

Montgomery visited UF two weeks ago and had the Gators in his top three hopefuls with Washington State and South Carolina, though his father said UF did not offer Montgomery a scholarship when he was in Gainesville.

He did not immediately respond to a voicemail or a text message left on his phone.

The Sacramento Bee broke the story, sourcing Montgomery's high school coach at Rancho Cordova High - Link
