UF sophomore forward Jonathan Mitchell will not return to Gainesville for his junior season, a UF press release stated early Friday.

Mitchell scored 3.1 points and tallied 1.8 rebounds per game this season. He only started in one game out of 65 career appearances.

UF had one-too-many scholarship athletes lined up for the 2008-09 season, but Mitchell leaving drops the team back down to the appropriate number of scholarships.

Mitchell's departure should leave room for Marreese Speights to stay in Gainesville if he does not like where he is projected to go in the NBA Draft. Speights declared for the draft but has not hired an agent, making him eligible to return to college for his junior year.
