Despite a packed schedule this weekend, both Gainesville and University police say they don't expect problems this Homecoming.

The weekend is busy for police because of the large amount of events involved, said UPD spokesman Jeff Holcomb.

However, most fans are there to have a good time, not to get angry over an opponent, he said.

GPD spokeswoman Summer Hallett said she didn't think police would have to work "above and beyond" because crowds won't be as big as other football games.

Games against LSU and Miami brought out more people than are expected for Homecoming, Hallett said.

Police will be present at all the weekend's events, she said.

During the parade on Friday, GPD officers will block traffic along University Avenue, Hallett said.

During and after Gator Growl and Saturday's football game, officers working overtime will be stationed around the university and downtown, Hallett said.

Holcomb said University Police would be stationed along the campus side of University Avenue and at other locations around campus during the parade, Gator Growl and the Homecoming game.

He said police would be on the lookout for open containers, underage drinking and any other disruptions.
