GPD arrests driver found with two stolen guns, marijuana in car

Two stolen handguns and 7 grams of marijuana found in the vehicle of an erratic driver led to an arrest Sunday morning.

Sgt. Steve Hayes pulled over a white 2002 GMC truck after noticing it driving on the wrong side of Northwest Sixth Street, a Gainesville Police report stated.

Hayes said he searched the truck after smelling alcohol and noticing the driver's license was restricted to business purposes only, the report stated.

He found a Ruger 9mm pistol and 22mm mini revolver in the center console, both loaded and readily accessible to the driver.

Although the firearms were stolen from Lake and Marion counties, GPD spokeswoman Summer Hallett said they could have changed hands.

Hayes also found two bags of marijuana and a full cup of Remy Martin cognac, the report stated.

"We did not do a DUI investigation on him," Hallett said. "We cannot say whether or not he was intoxicated."

Police arrested Richard Summers Jr., 23. He told police everything in the vehicle belonged to him, the report stated.
