Gainesville man accused of stealing empty kegs

A Gainesville man was arrested after he was accused of stealing empty kegs and selling them to a convenience store for cash.

After two women saw a man loitering in The Estates apartment complex, 3527 S.W. 20th Ave., they called the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and then followed him across the street to Pinnacle Point Apartments.

The women lost sight of him near the back of the complex, but when he reappeared he was holding a keg, the ASO arrest report stated.

They followed him to Tailgate Beverage, 4340 S.W. 20th Ave., where he was met by an ASO officer.

Michael Miranda, 24, originally told officers that he had brought the keg from his house. After being told about the witnesses, Miranda confessed that he had stolen the keg from a back porch behind Pinnacle Point Apartments.

The $15 he received for the keg was found in the front right pocket of his shorts.

Miranda also advised officers that he stole a second keg from the Kensington South Apartments and sold it to the same convenience store earlier that day.

According to the report, Miranda said he stole a third keg from The Estates two days before his arrest.

Officers also found two marijuana cigarettes in his right front pocket.

Miranda was charged with burglary of a dwelling, dealing stolen property, theft and possession of marijuana.
