Volunteer accused of stealing from Salvation Army

A Gainesville woman was arrested Monday after being accused of stealing from the Salvation Army thrift store where she was performing community service hours.

Latonya Jackson, 19, put several clothing items in her purse that totaled $10.96, according to a Gainesville Police report.

During her shift, it was brought to the manager's attention that Jackson was taking clothes from the store and putting them in her purse, the report stated.

When it was time for her to leave, the manager confronted Jackson and found three shirts and a pair of jeans inside her purse, the report stated.

According to the report, when the officers confronted her, Jackson told police she planned to take the clothes out of the store without paying for them, but she said that someone else was making her do it.

Jackson was charged with petty theft and was being held at the Alachua County Jail as of Tuesday afternoon.
