A Gainesville woman was arrested on her birthday after turning herself in for stabbing her boyfriend.
Alachua County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at Majestic Oaks Apartments at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a call that a man had been stabbed.
According to the ASO arrest report, they saw a man lying on the ground in the parking lot with multiple stab wounds to his neck, chest and back.
He was taken to Shands at UF for treatment where the medical staff said he had a punctured lung and was put on a ventilator, the report stated.
Sherry Curtis, 23, contacted the Combined Communications Center and turned herself in five hours after the search for her began.
When arrested, she told police that her boyfriend did not agree with her going out to celebrate her birthday, but that she had gone anyway.
Curtis told police she was running from the apartment when she heard her boyfriend scream, "I'm going to kill you."
She turned around, she said, and he punched her in the face.
Curtis said she then grabbed a broken beer bottle on the ground and stabbed her boyfriend.
According to the report, Curtis was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
