The Progress Party was not disqualified Wednesday night by Student Government's Elections Commission, but they will have to dish out $80.

Of the 13 complaints filed against the Progress Party, 12 were voted valid.

Progress Party President Josh Simmons went head-to-head with Orange and Blue Party Sen. Sam Miorelli, who filed the complaints, when the commission meeting continued after being cut short on Monday night.

Miorelli presented eight complaints to convince the commission that the Progress Party was in violation for campaigning before Jan. 27. Violations include a premature Web site, Facebook group, Facebook message and political rally held in the Plaza of the Americas.

During the two-and-a-half-hour meeting, Simmons and Miorelli presented evidence and refuted each other's claims. In the end, the Progress Party was fined.

"The Progress Party understands they made a large mistake," said Michael Maguire, a member of the commission.

But Miorelli disagreed.

"I think what came out of this shows you can campaign outside the election season," he said. "And that's deplorable."
