Gators fans will have a new reason to crowd Ben Hill Griffin Stadium this Saturday-- to support autism awareness.

Participants in "Stomp the Swamp for Autism" will run or walk the stairs and benches of the stadium for as long as they want.

The event will raise money to benefit UF's Center for Autism and Related Disabilities.

The organization is a state-funded program that supports children and adults with autism, said Amanda Cruz, the event's coordinator.

The person who runs the most will take home the Biggest Stomper Award. Inside the stadium there will be three different tracks for participants' varied fitness levels, she said.

"'Stomp the Swamp for Autism' is a good way to show the children that they're not alone and that they have a whole community to support them," Cruz said.

Because the event is scheduled Easter weekend, Cruz said she would be happy if about 50 to 100 people attend. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and costs $15.99 online before the event and $15 the day of the event.
