What started as a nightmare turned into a pretty good day for the Gators.

The No. 8 UF men's golf team ended the first round of the NCAA Southwest Regional in Austin, Texas, on Thursday with a score of 9 over par, good enough for third place.

On the first nine holes of the day, the Gators shot 13 over par, but they quickly turned it around and improved their score by 12 strokes and shot 1 over par on the back nine.

Seniors Billy Horschel and Will Strickler led the way for UF as they both ended the day with scores of 1 over par.

The five teams with the lowest scores at the end of the third round on Saturday will advance to NCAA Championships.
