Coming into the weekend, Florida’s only loss of the season was against Baylor. On Friday that defeat was avenged.

The No. 11 Gators men’s tennis team defeated No. 6 Baylor 4-2 in the first round of the ITA National Team Indoor Tournament in Charlottesville, Va.

In doubles, the No. 2 and No. 3 courts split their sets, leaving their crucial doubles point to No. 10 Antoine Benneteau and Alexandre Lacroix on the No. 1 court.

Benneteau and Lacroix delivered the point in a tiebreaker set.

Up 1-0, UF needed to win 3 singles matches to advance to the quarterfinals.

The match was tied at 2-2 before Florida clinched the victory by winning on courts No. 5 and No. 6.

Freshmen Sekou Bangoura Jr. and Nassim Slilam were both pushed to three sets in their victories.

No. 7 Alexandre Lacroix was in the third set of his match on court No. 1 when play was abandoned upon Florida’s 4-2 victory.

The Gators (5-1) face No. 9 Ohio State today at 9 a.m.

The No. 4 Gators women’s tennis team remained perfect with a 5-2 victory over No. 16 Michigan at the ITA Team Indoor Tournament in Madison, Wis.

Florida began the match winning all 3 doubles sets.

With the doubles point secured, senior Anastasia Revzina and freshman Allie Will won the first two singles matches from courts No. 4 and No. 2.  Sophomore Claire Bartlett ensured the Florida victory in a three-set win on court No. 6.

The loss is Embree’s first of the season.
