It's almost time to start reliving your childhood again.
I'm sure we all remember our first time watching Woody and Buzz on the big screen back in1995 when PIXAR's "Toy Story" hit theaters and became a huge hit. Four years later we got the sweet sequel and now, nearly 15 years after the first film, a third is going to hit theaters.
While I have never really heard any clamor for another installment in the franchise, I can't help but say I'm excited.
PIXAR is the top-dog in the animated film business with such greats as "Finding Nemo," "Monsters, Inc." and "WALL-E." But the company isn't known for sequels since "Toy Story 2" is the only one it has ever made. Now it has two more coming out with this summer's "Toy Story 3" and next year's "Cars 2."
Maybe it's because I don't hang out with lots of kids, but as stated, I haven't heard anything about people really wanting to see a third "Toy Story" or second "Cars." Especially that last one since I consider "Cars" to be the slowest of all the PIXAR films.
But enough of my ranting. Let's get down to what happens in the new film that will bring some of our iconic childhood friends back to the big screen.
In this latest installment, young boy Andy is now a teenager ready to head off for college. Like any college-bound kid, Andy beings to sift through his possessions for what he will bring with him to school, and through a cleaning mishap, his old toys end up donated to a child daycare center. All of our favorites - Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), Mr. Potato Head (Don Rickles), Rex (Wallace Shawn) - are tossed into a new world, with new toy companions and hordes of unruly toddlers to face everyday. However, some bonds in life aren't easily broken, and when Andy comes looking for his lost toys, his toys in turn go looking for him.
I wonder if they're going to explain how a guy who is going to college is going to want to save and possibly still play with some of his favorite childhood toys. I know mine are all gone. But I don't really care as I want to see how the story unfolds with toys old and new going on another adventure to get back to Andy.
No toy gets left behind!
"Toy Story 3" will be presented in 3-D and hits theaters on June 18, 2010.
