I’d like to present a way-to-step-up-to-the-plate LAUREL to the organizers and participants of last weekend’s Dance Marathon. More than half a million dollars is a lot and shows what happens when people use money for what actually matters. Good job!
Conversely, I’d like to throw a we-can-do-much-better-than-this DART at the UF community (myself included) for only reaching 70 percent of the $50,000 fundraising goal set by Gators United for Haiti.
It vexed me that $517,260 was raised over the weekend but only $35,500 was raised all semester to send relief to a nation where 200,000 people died and one million became homeless. The University Alumni Association will match our donations up to $50,000 by the end of the semester. I beg us to examine our erroneous expenditures and skip that $10 meal at our favorite restaurant for a last-ditch donation to Gators United for Haiti. We’ve got two weeks. Let’s do this.
