Wednesday’s guest column by Stephen Bartholomew from the University of Toledo on the justification of WikiLeaks’ releases is ridiculous.

I realize these leaks are seen as valuable for keeping our government responsible for war crimes, but the harm these leaks cause is far more damaging than its benefits are helpful.

Frankly, no one is holding anyone accountable for these war crimes, and that’s unfortunate.

However, it’s pretty hard to affect change when only 41 percent of eligible voters actually vote in the U.S.

Beyond that fact, war isn’t pretty.

I don’t want anyone being taken advantage of, but at the end of the day it’s not a perfect world.

Pardon my cynicism, but anyone who can applaud Julian Assange as a “champion of truth and democracy” has clearly been munching on rainbows and butterflies for the past several months.

Reality check behind the leaks: Our foreign informants are being murdered over them, and your safety is at risk because of your beloved “champion.”

Enjoy that truth and democracy when that threat finally finds your hometown one of these days.
