Students with smart phones can check in on campus and help UF win $10,000.
Gowalla, a location-based social networking service, allows users to “check in” at various spots on campus using their phones.
In partnership with the Associated Press Top 25, Gowalla has launched the AP Top 25 Gowalla Check-In Challenge, which lets students at 25 universities check into five highlighted spots for their university, earning their school points, which increases its ranking in the challenge.
The top school will receive a $10,000 general scholarship.
UF is currently No. 10 in the poll, dropping from third place a week ago.
“We want to encourage students to participate with student-run activities, go to games and get involved on their campuses,” said Ashley Cass, a Gowalla campus ambassador.
The five spots for UF are at Century Tower, the Reitz Union, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, the Stephen C. O’Connell Center and UF in general.
Users may check in to five spots per day. Each time, the user will be entered to win a variety of prizes, including a Macbook Air and an iPad.
The contest ends in mid-January.
