AMPED with UF athletes: soccer player Sarah Chapman

Whether it’s before sleep, practice or a soccer match, UF midfielder Sarah Chapman loves her music. In fact, she has more than 5,000 songs in her iTunes library.

Chapman loves music so much, she even makes warmup CDs for her teammates, which have received such rave reviews that the freshmen end up taking them — a no-no Chapman has to teach rookies, she said. Recently at practice, Chapman sat down with the Avenue and shared a fraction of her favorites.

“Hey, Soul Sister” by Train

“As soon as it came out — I found it out early, too — I was like, ‘I am in love with this song.’ I love the lyrics. I love the beat. This is a song — if I’m in a bad mood, a good mood, any kind of mood I’m in — I will still smile.”

“Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane

“You get away from everything else, if you’re having issues with a relationship or anything. It’s a special song — a good memory from high school.”

“Marry You” by Bruno Mars

“Everyone says he’s the new Michael Jackson, and I love Michael Jackson. I love Bruno Mars. I always sing to this song whenever it’s on or when it’s on my iPod.”

“Whip My Hair” by Willow Smith

“She’s brilliant. It’s such a good pump-up song. I’m always in my car jamming to it.”

“Toxic” by Britney Spears

“I’ve always been a fan of her, even though how crazy she is. You gotta love her. ‘Toxic’ was my first ring tone.”

“Brown-Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison

“I was the little kid that loved this song because I had brown eyes. That’s my favorite oldies.”

“Wavin’ Flag” by K’NAAN

“That song I always listen to before a game. I just love how the beginning starts. It really calms me down. The beat of the drums in that song really get me going.”

“Summer Girl” by Jessica Andrews

“I like country, but I like old country. In high school, every time we went away on a bus, I would scream this song — the whole song.”

“Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen

“The lyrics sound perfect: ‘Don’t stop me now, I’m having such a good time….’ That is my quote right there.”

“You Give Me Something” by James Morrison

“That’s my favorite slow song. Every line means something to me. I thought I’d put a chill song on there.”
