Campus improv group laughs off adversity

In case you haven’t noticed, the Gator Nation is all about tradition.

Like any other college, UF encourages a constant show of school pride. I can look around my room and see at least five items made in the correct shades of orange and blue. I have a plastic cup from freshman year that has our alma mater written on it. Students are encouraged to complete the “F Book,” which is surprisingly not the name of a scandalous teen novel.

After working diligently throughout the past three years, Theatre Strike Force has regained a tradition of its very own.

Until shenanigans three years ago, TSF was able to showcase some of its best players in the Mainstage show every spring semester. The shows include written sketches, short-form (think of the games you’d see on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”) and long-form improv, which is like a made-up episode of “Seinfeld” or “Friends.”

The story goes that some idiots in the audience of a TSF show decided to be drunk and awful. Their actions are what put TSF on the theater department’s naughty list, and the glorious Mainstage show was taken away from the club.

Thankfully, through the work of past presidents, Erik Voss and Ricky Klopfenstein, and current president Katie Leblanc, TSF will be performing its Mainstage show this weekend in the beautiful Constans Theatre.

I guess through my time at the club, I’ve actually watched us build a legacy. We’ve proven ourselves to be trustworthy, even if we’re a ragtag group of college kids who spend too much time with each other.

I’d also like to take this time to remind any readers (that aren’t tweetbots) that you are more than welcome to submit questions or comments to me. If you don’t want to post them publically on these blog posts, feel free to e-mail them to gainesvillecomedy@gmail.com, and I will be more than happy to address them in my next post.
