Inaccuracies and all, Tuesday’s feature about a certain math whiz did not bother me. As a daily reader, I have come to expect a certain level of flawed reporting, sensationalism and biases from your crack team at the Alligator. That, coupled with the already innocuous nature of a story about a smart student attending a university, shocking as that may be, elicited little more than a shrug from me.

On the other hand, your apology was the most disingenuous, insolent piece you have published in my three years at UF. Despite the various evolutions in membership your editorial board has undergone in those years, the most basic facts regularly escape your clumsy grip. What’s more, you have proudly flaunted this tragedy of journalism you call a newspaper without a modicum of reverence for the truth. For you to now emerge from under your own collective ego to bury an apology for misrepresenting a story that affects absolutely no one while simultaneously polluting stories of real importance with fresh lies and biases insults the intelligence of this audience and exposes your blindness.

Those who accept your renewed calls for accuracy and fairness truly deserve this publication, but do not expect respect from readers who have a desire for reliable reporting.

But fear not!

As long as you continue to publish a daily crossword puzzle, you will always have a faithful patron in me.
