The LGBT community doesn’t really care about tolerance. This couldn’t be any clearer after their reaction to Chick-fil-A.

Tolerance implies allowing or suffering through something you disagree with. The owners of Chick-fil-A practice tolerance daily in employing and serving members of the LGBT community and treating them with the same respect they offer to those who hold their Christian values.

Yet not one word suggesting tolerance was raised when the LGBT community discovered Chick-fil-A had the audacity to hold a moral belief different from their own. So much for their vaunted tolerance. Their plea for tolerance is a sham. A tolerant world makes allowance for disapproval of others’ actions without being called a bigot or a hatemonger.

What the LGBT community wants is open approval and vigorous acclaim, as Megan Bissell’s column on Wednesday made clear.

Her world makes no allowance for being accepted or valued if her actions are not heartily commended. Nothing will satisfy the LGBT community but wholesale support and praise.

Megan, though I do not know you, I do value your life despite my inability to approve of the way you choose to live it. Your worth comes from your humanity, not your sexuality. Love and disapproval are not mutually exclusive. Just ask the father who checks his alcoholic son into rehab.

Can you tolerate that?
