On Tuesday, a Florida men's track and field athlete was kicked off the team after he was arrested on a second-degree felony charge of sexual battery.

A South African native and junior distance runner, Dumisane Hlaselo was taken into custody by Gainesville Police and booked into the Alachua County jail at 2:02 p.m.

"We are aware of the arrest of Dumisane Hlaselo," the UF athletic association said in a statement. "We find these charges deeply disturbing. He is no longer a member of the University of Florida track and field team."

The 22-year-old Hlaselo had just finished his first full cross country and track season with the Gators after transferring from a boarding school in Bloemfontein, South Africa. He is the 2011 SEC Indoor Champion in the 3,000-meter run and also holds the school record in the indoor mile.
