On Monday, Melbourne Holy Trinity free safety Marcus Maye became Florida’s 15th oral commitment for its 2012 class.

Marcus Maye has known for a while how he feels about Florida. On Monday, he decided to make his feelings public.

Accompanied by his family and Melbourne Holy Trinity High assistant coach Tracy Biggs on his official visit, the four-star safety informed head coach Will Muschamp he would become oral commitment No. 15 for the 2012 class.

“I just told coach Muschamp that I was ready to be a Gator,“ Maye said. “He was very excited.”

The news means the 6-foot-1, 195-pounder is Florida’s second safety oral commitment in four days. Shelby (N.C.) Crest High’s Rhaheim Ledbetter joined the 2012 list on Friday.

Maye, a free safety, said he is excited about playing with Ledbetter, a strong safety, but he has not gotten a chance to talk to him. He hopes his own pledge to the Gators will help draw other major names.

“I’m trying to get us some more guys, you know [Nelson] Agholor, Tracy Howard and some other guys,” Maye said. “I’m going to be trying to get more guys to jump on board and be a part of Gator Nation, so we can keep this thing rolling.”

Both Maye, who Rivals.com lists as the No. 7 safety in the country, and his mentor and assistant coach Biggs, cited the UF coaching staff as a big reason why the Holy Trinity rising senior came to his decision.

“It’s going to be a great situation for him,” Biggs said. “Travaris Robinson has done a great job in just making him feel comfortable about coming to Florida.”
