Gators dive into community service with Gator Plunge

The Center for Leadership and Service at UF will be hosting its annual single-day community service project Gator Plunge, which allows UF students to get together and branch off into groups to participate in different projects around the area.

Gator Plunge is on Saturday from 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. All volunteers are to meet on the Plaza of the Americas in front of Peabody Hall to find out what groups they will be assigned to for the day.

There will be a variety of service projects for volunteers to assist with, including working with animals, youth development, elder care, art and culture, environmental issues, and homelessness and housing. The service projects will be spread throughout various areas of Gainesville in order for students to become more acquainted with the community.

The morning will start off with breakfast and registration, during which attendees will be given their assignments, followed by a reflection and lunch period after the service projects are complete.

Gator Plunge is an excellent opportunity not just for volunteering, but for networking also. Students will be able to meet with campus leaders one-on-one throughout the day and other students who also have an interest in community service.

Since opportunities beget other opportunities, students will be able to learn about additional community service projects going on around Gainesville.

Last year, over 500 students participated. Hundreds of volunteers are expected this year as well.

As a reminder, all volunteers are asked to bring sunscreen, closed-toed shoes and plenty of water, as it is expected to be a very hot day.
