Gainesville House of Beer grand opening; Greater Gator Beer Festival postponed

Come out and celebrate another addition to the downtown craft beer scene with the Grand Opening ceremony of Gainesville House of Beer Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Following the ribbon cutting, look for Mayor Craig Lowe behind the bar as he takes on the role of guest bartender for the night. Any tips Mayor Lowe receives will be donated to the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization in Gainesville. There will be $4 drafts all night and complimentary food from local restaurants.

The House of Beer has 40 taps of microbrews from around the nation and more than 100 bottles of domestics and imports from around the world.

Gainesville House of Beer is located at 19 W. University Ave., and celebrations will continue next week from Oct. 24 to Oct. 27 with special promotions, giveaways and drink specials.

The second Greater Gator Beer Festival of the year has been rescheduled to take place in middle of November due to organizers trying to secure a new downtown location for the event. Check for updates on the website to find out more about a permanent date and information about ticket sales. Originally scheduled for Saturday, the festival will include free unlimited samples of more than 100 of the world's best beers, free food from local restaurants and plenty of entertainment. Thousands are expected to attend.

All attendees must be 21 and have a valid photo ID. Proceeds will be donated to The Haven, a sanctuary for injured and orphaned wildlife.

Posts in Beer for Breakfast appear on Wednesdays.
