For the first time, UF students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend UF's Information Technology Security Awareness Day.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday in the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom, IT officials will speak to students and other industry professionals about all aspects of the Internet, including safety.
In years past, the event was open only to IT staff.
Attendees can learn how to protect themselves from Internet scams and identity theft, according to Rob Adams, information security officer, and David Huelsman, information security architect.
This year, there will also be an IT expo with vendors that sponsor the event, such as AT&T, Best Buy and McAfee.
Guests can enter a raffle to win prizes like iPads and laptops.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops as the UF Computing Help Desk will be there to install software to keep personal laptops up to date.
Huelsman said the goal is to use the prizes to get students in the door so they can then be taught how to protect themselves because anyone can be affected.
