Shower Coach Challenge chance to make a difference

If you have ever lived in the residence halls, you may or may not be aware of the Department of Housing’s Shower Coach Challenge.

Every shower in the residence halls gets a shower timer that challenges its users to cut their bathing time down to five minutes.

It’s true that it can be hard to cut down the time you spend in the shower. Who wants to rush when it’s often the only time to relax? But the fact is that by using cooler water and taking a faster shower, you can save a lot of water.

For example, an average 10-minute shower can use about 50 gallons of water. By cutting it down to five minutes, you’re saving 25 gallons of water right there.

That’s about the size of a load of laundry.

For all of you who live in the residence halls, use the timers. If you don’t, try taking your cell phone in the bathroom with you and time yourself. The earth and your water bill will thank you.
