All-clear signal given by UPD after armed suspect at Shands not found

Update: According to a University notification sent out at about 12:10 p.m., UPD "have conducted a complete search of the Shands/Health Science Center campus but have not located the subject".

People on campus are advised to go about business as normal while police maintain an increased presence in the Shands area.

UF released an emergency alert about an armed suspect in the Shands Atrium.

University Police Department is looking for a black man wearing jeans and an orange shirt with white short sleeves. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall.

A UF warning email said the man was seen dropping a handgun. He then picked it up and put it in his pants pocket.

Anyone who sees a man matching this description is encouraged to call UPD at 352-392-1111.

There are no indications that the suspect intends harm.

UPD Maj. Brad Barber said the nearby Baby Gator building has been put on lockdown, and police are searching the area.

"At this point, we have had no success in locating him," he said. UPD has advised campus to maintain normal operations.
