The city has halted its decision to allow the sale and consumption of alcohol in a downtown parking lot.

The idea to permit selling and consuming alcohol in the lot was supposed to be discussed during the March 15 City Commission meeting, but the item was removed from the agenda.

Commissioners were going to decide if the city attorney should draft a modification of the amendment, which would allow businesses to sell alcohol and patrons to consume alcohol on city Parking Lot 10 during special events.

The lot is located downtown at Southwest First Avenue and Southwest Second Street.

A new date to discuss the item has not been set yet.

Though it was not discussed during the March 15 city commission meeting, the commission voted unanimously to draft another modified amendment that would permit food vendors to stay open until 3 a.m.

Currently, food vendors can stay open until 10 p.m.

The commission will vote on new food vendor business hours again after the city attorney issues a draft of the modification.
