Both westbound lanes of Southwest Williston Road were shut down around 5 p.m. Wednesday after a semitrailer ran over a man in the road.
The man's identity is not known at this time. Paramedics took him to Shands at UF, where he is in extremely critical condition with major head injuries, said Gainesville Police spokeswoman Cpl. Angelina Valuri.
The crash happened at 3300 SW Williston Road, and traffic is being directed north to Southwest 23rd Terrace.
