It took a late rally from behind, but the Gators finally broke their losing skid on Saturday.
For the second day in a row, coach Tim Walton started Hannah Rogers against Georgia, but it was the freshman Lauren Haeger who came in to redeem herself from her previous appearance.
Rogers, who earned the loss in Friday night's game that concluded Saturday afternoon because of the weather, pitched the first two innings of the second game but was taken out after allowing one run on three hits.
Walton then replaced her with Haeger, who lost Wednesday night at home against USF. Haeger finished the game, giving up one run on six hits in five innings to capture her 10th win of the season.
Offensively, Florida (30-4, 11-2 Southeastern Conference) did just enough to pull out its elusive 30th win of the year. Senior Michelle Moultrie and sophomore Cheyenne Coyle led the team with two hits each, including a home run by Coyle in the fourth to tie the game at two.
In the previous two games, the Gators could muster only three runs. On Saturday, despite leaving six runners on base, UF pulled through in the fifth inning to gain a 4-2 advantage that it would not relinquish.
The Bulldogs committed a key throwing error to allow Moultrie to cross the plate to take the lead in the fifth. Then freshman Bailey Castro added an insurance run with an RBI single.
Florida took advantage of a sloppy Georgia performance, as the Bulldogs committed three errors which ultimately allowed the Gators a chance to win the series on Sunday.
On Sunday at 1 p.m., Florida will attempt to chalk up their 12th Southeastern Conference win and clinch yet another series in the weekend’s rubber match.
