I-75 accident leaves one man dead, two injured

A car accident on Interstate 75 left one Gainesville man dead and two people injured.

Troy Dozier, 50, was killed Friday morning after crashing his 2007 Ford Explorer, according to a media release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A female passenger with Dozier was critically injured.

According to FHP, Dozier was driving in the left southbound lane at around midnight Thursday night near Mile Marker 393 when he drifted off the road to the left shoulder. He overcorrected himself and steered his car into the center lane, hitting a 2007 Dodge in the rear.

Both cars went off the road into a ditch, according to the FHP.

The Ford crashed head-on into a tree while the Dodge stopped near the tree line.

Dozier and the woman were taken to Shands at the University of Florida. Dozier was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the Dodge, Galdino Vergara, 50, of Pompano Beach, received minor injuries. An 8-year-old child in the vehicle was not injured, according to FHP.

FHP is currently investigating the crash.
