Gainesville Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Monday afternoon at an apartment complex near Archer Road.

According to police, two men, whom police did not identify, were reported firing shots around 1 p.m. Monday from their car at University Commons on Southwest Archer Road.

A witness gave police the vehicle’s license plate number.

The tag led officers to an apartment at Regency Oaks near the intersection of Archer Road and Southwest 34th Street, said GPD Spokesman Officer Ben Tobias.

Tobias said police found the vehicle, and when they approached the apartment, a woman answered the door.

She told police two men fled from the apartment through the back.

Police caught one of the suspects but were not able to find the other.

Officers found 9 mm shell casings at both University Commons and Regency Oaks.

At 1:43 p.m., UF sent out an alert about the incident, telling students a black male with dreadlocks and tan shorts was armed and heading east.

At 2:52 p.m., UF sent out a second alert reporting GPD did not find the suspect. A witness told police the suspect may have fled in an unknown vehicle.
