Annual RecSports event showcases sports, services

Jeff Driskel is not the only UF student who can play sports this fall.

UF’s Department of Recreational Sports will host its annual RecSports Extravaganza from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Southwest Recreation Center on Hull Road.

Free Domino’s pizza and D’Lites ice cream will be handed out at the doors.

The first 1,500 attendees to finish five activities will receive a free T-shirt, according to the RecSports website.

“It’s meant to not only showcase the sports clubs, but to allow people to see what all we have to offer,” said Jessica Gates, a marketing coordinator for RecSports.

RecSports workers will distribute information, answer questions and run six activities.

Attendees will also have a chance to win prizes like massage therapy gift cards, ‘47 Brand gear and Nike products in a raffle.

“We’ve added fitness challenges, there’s going to be personal trainer consultations, the size itself has been expanded, and even a boot camp demo,” Gates said.

Telecommunication junior Katherine Cabrera, 22, said she plans to attend.

“I want to get out and have fun before the semester swamps me,” Cabrera said. “Besides, I can always use another workout shirt.”
