Trendy techno music and neon paint will splash the Alachua County Fairgrounds this weekend when Life in Color hits town.
The internationally touring music show, formerly known as Dayglow, is making a stop in Gainesville on Friday night.
Antonio Mercado, the founder of Life in Color’s promotional company, said the event focuses on creating a total experience with world-class staging, lighting and sound in addition to the hallmark musical performances and paint-filled cannons that soak the audience.
“The paint is important, but it’s not the defining characteristic of Dayglow anymore,” Mercado said.
The music and paint look alluring, but 22-year-old UF graduate student Hector McFarquhar said he’s excited for the overall experience.
“It looks trippy,” the first-year animal sciences graduate student said.
The show was originally slated to perform in Gainesville during Labor Day weekend, but Mercado said a missed filing deadline with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office for event security caused them to reschedule for later in the month.
“I think it ended up working out for the best,” Mercado said. “Friday night is probably the biggest.” Mercado is optimistic about attendance.
He said he estimates between 4,500 and 5,000 people to show up. He said it’s been about four years since the show last visited Gainesville.
“Lots of people were asking if it’s ever going to come back,” he said.
