Happiest of Hours: Gainesville’s Best Happy Hours

Looking to get the most drink for your hard-earned dollar? Happy hours never fail when it comes to getting a deal on your midweek pick-me-up. You can pull out your wallet for this one; we’ve rounded up some of the best happy hours in town so you know where to go every night of the week. Whether you’re looking for dirt-cheap drinks or bottomless refills at your normally high-priced hangout, these nine picks have something for everyone.

Salty Dog

With a happy hour that runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. every night of the week and all day on Sundays, Salty is always an option for those who don’t mind starting his or her night a little bit early. Show up after class to snag one of the front tables and start enjoying $2.25 double wells and $1.25 domestic beers.

Swamp Restaurant

Spending a Monday night on the front lawn at Swamp should be on everyone’s bucket list. Once the first hint of fall weather sets in, gather up a group of friends and head outdoors to enjoy live music, $5 pitchers of beer and $4 double wells. Didn’t get there early enough to escape paying cover to get in? Regulars at Swamp know investing in a Midtown Pass ($25) gets them drink and food specials all semester long and free cover any night of the week, even on gamedays.

Balls Bookstore

A true dive bar not for the faint of heart, Balls is a midtown legend when it comes to cheap drinks. Wednesday means $7 all-you-can-drink from 10 p.m. to midnight, and Friday night always gets started off right when you attend Sink or Swim $7 all-you-can-drink from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Beer Pit

Order up some $2 double wells, $4 Coors pitchers or $5 pitchers of domestic beer every day from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at this rowdy space next to Relish. Come in on Fridays anytime between 5 p.m. and close to grab $1 bottles of beer or $7 bottles of wine and champagne.

101 Cantina

3-4-1 deals are the name of the game at this Mexican-themed bar and restaurant. Starting at 11 a.m. every day, take advantage of 3-4-1 wells and specials on select margaritas. If you plan to eat and drink, stop by from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. any day of the week to get happy hour deals like $4 margaritas, $5 loaded Coronas and half-off appetizers. Monday nights also offer free margaritas from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.

101 Downtown

For an interactive happy hour that will keep you on your toes, stop by this downtown hotspot for the Friday Drink Exchange. Each Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and again from 10 p.m. to close, bar-goers can take advantage of complimentary appetizers and an energy-filled game modeled after the high-paced stock exchange. Looking to get the best deal on your beverage of choice? Monitor the TVs located at the front of the bar to see prices rise and fall as the night goes on. There is also happy hour every day from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. that includes $5 martinis and mojitos along with wine specials.

For a happy hour that gets you off your bar stool and onto the dance floor, check out :08 Tailgate Fridays. Pay $9 when you go in and you get a night of corn hole and beer pong competitions paired with all you can drink wells and longnecks. Not to mention you can bring out your honky tonk-side with line dancing that doesn’t stop until closing time.

Tall Paul's Brewhouse

Craft beer drinkers need happy hour specials too, so stop by Tall Paul’s for Thirsty Thursday drink specials from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Ten dollars buys all-you-can-drink special kegs and house wine.

The Midnight Café

Every Tuesday means it’s time to get tanked with $3 25 oz. drafts of Yuengling, Amber Bock, Shock Top and Killian’s Irish Red as part of The Midnight’s Tankard Tuesdays specials. For anything else on draft, $5 buys you 25 oz. drafts to enjoy while playing video or board games at one of the tables indoors or a live DJ session out on the patio.
