Three mall restaurants close doors

Three Oaks Mall restaurants will no longer serve customers, but they will soon be replaced with new establishments.

In the past month, the mall has seen Suki Hana, Lotus Express and Great Steak & Potato Company, once prominently located side by side in the mall’s food court, close their doors.

“It was a combination of a lack of traffic and high rent,” said Amber Williams, general manager of the Red Mango on the other side of the food court.

A spokeswoman for the mall’s manager’s office said the restaurants’ leases ended with the beginning of the new year, and they did not renew.

She added that Charley’s Grilled Subs, Asian Chao and Maki of Japan are set to replace the old restaurants in the coming months.

The new managers, however, could not be reached for comment. In the meantime, mall employees and customers will continue to eat at the food court.

Farran Kountz, a 22-year-old UF dietetics senior, works at the Abercrombie & Fitch store next to the food court.

“I buy my lunch every day I work, but the store closings have eliminated a lot of healthier choices,” she said. “The only place I can go to for healthy, hot food is Great Wraps.”

Vanessa Rodriguez, 30, said she isn’t concerned with the restaurants’ closing.

“I’m excited to try the new options when they open,” she said, “but I’m always going to go back to my Chick-fil-A. I love it.”
