A stabbing early Monday outside of a southwest Gainesville bar left an Alachua man in critical condition and Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies searching for the culprit.

Brett Johnson, 30, was taken to Shands at UF with multiple stab wounds after a fight broke out just before 3 a.m. outside of All Star Sports Bar in the 4200 block of Southwest 13th Street, said ASO spokesman Art Forgey.

Bystanders in line with Johnson helped control the bleeding and drove him to the hospital, Forgey said. By the time deputies arrived at the bar, Johnson was gone.

As of Tuesday afternoon, investigators had not talked to Johnson about the incident because he was still in treatment, Forgey said.

Because the case is still under investigation, Forgey could not provide any more information.

Johnson’s stabbing was the 65th incident at the bar that has required ASO’s intervention since the beginning of the year, according to an ASO call list.

Deputies have been called to the bar for various incidents such as noise complaints, grand theft auto and beverage and narcotics violations.

Johnson’s incident was the only reported stabbing at the bar.

Bar owners could not be reached for comment.
