Gainesville Police is looking for a man who allegedly stole various items from two UF students and sexually assaulted one of the students at gunpoint early Monday.

At about 4 a.m., the man walked into the house, located in the 400 block of Southwest 10th Street, through an unlocked back door. Inside, he sexually assaulted the woman while threatening her with a handgun, said GPD spokesman Officer Ben Tobias.

Police said the man also stole two MacBook Pro laptops, an iPhone and other personal items, then he fled from the house, according to a GPD news release.

The woman and her male roommate called University Police’s non-emergency number, according to a UPD report. UPD transferred the call to GPD’s emergency system and officers drove to the house.

Police described the assailant to be a 6-foot-tall thin, black man wearing a gray sweatshirt with black jeans and black wrap-around sunglasses, according to the release.

Officers searched the area around the house but couldn’t find the man, police said. However, a neighbor told officers the man may have walked west on Southwest Seventh Avenue after the incident.

GPD is still investigating the case and requests that anyone with information call GPD detectives at 352-393-7670, text an anonymous tip to 274637 with keyword “GPDFL” plus your tip or by calling the anonymous tip line at 352-393-7700.
