World of Beer is the newest bar in Newberry that boasts more than 500 bottles and 40 drafts from around the globe. After its grand opening Monday, May 6, this watering hole was christened into, and perhaps now leads the ranks of, the top places to satisfy a thirsty, variety-craving beer palate.

Courtney Girgis, a 27-year-old third-year UF art history graduate student, was more than impressed by the World of Beer scene.

“I cannot believe how many beers they have to offer here,” she said, nearly shouting through the loud volume of Saturday night’s copious crowd. “The menu is page after page long of beers I had never, ever heard of — I’m so glad they give descriptions of almost all of them!”

Girgis certainly was not exaggerating, for even the most critical craft beer snob will surely be challenged by the delectable selection of pale ales, lagers, malts and pilsners served. Combine this spread with a stage for live music, an outdoor patio and an abundance of flat screens broadcasting sporting events, and World of Beer nails the atmosphere for a perfect hang spot.

World of Beer is located about seven miles west of campus in the Tioga Town Center. Never fear, this only adds to its charm — a close yet clean break from the Midtown and downtown shenanigans is well worth a cab fare.
