The Counseling and Wellness Center on Radio Road is a university run resource for all registered UF students. Many students feel intimidated by the idea of seeking counseling sessions and with all the myths regarding counseling, it’s no wonder they feel that way. Counseling is simply goal-oriented conversation that seeks to create a sense of connection and clarity in one’s life.

The Counseling and Wellness Center, also known as the CWC, is a place made specifically for students. There are a countless number of counselors ready to help students just like you make transitions in life, become successful in school and resolve issues both big and small.

The CWC is a short term counseling center where students are encouraged to find a counselor they connect with to resolve any issues they may find themselves up against.

Perhaps the most popular resource within the CWC is group counseling sessions. There are many types of group counseling such as the basic “Understanding Self and Others” group to more specific groups such as the group for bereavement and the group for making peace with food. Going to group counseling can be difficult for anyone, as it is an intimidating concept. You are grouped with people who are just like you.

Most people come to group counseling are all seeking the same things out of group, making it easier to shake the initial intimidation of the idea of group therapy. If you find yourself in need of counseling services, be sure to stop by the CWC for a consultation and discuss the possibility of group therapy.  It is a really beneficial tool available to all students and is a place where you can make lifelong friends.

The CWC’s best kept secret has to be their biofeedback lab. This room is full of tools designed to help individuals to control their physiological activity such as breathing and heart rate. The goal of the lab is to help promote lower levels of stress by helping the individual be conscious of how their body responds to stress. The biofeedback lab requires an orientation session where individuals learn how to use the various items correctly. Oh, and one more bonus, the room has the world’s greatest massage chair.

Trust me when I say you didn’t even know you wanted your calves massaged until you sit on this throne of wonders. The relaxation skills you learn in the biofeedback lab (also known as GatorBliss) are lifelong skills that can be used to really help you feel connected between body and mind.
